It's Christmas at Nana's House.

Well, at least for me it is. My Studio Accuquilt cutter has finally arrived and I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. Now I can cut a whole slew of charm packs and jelly rolls. They are the only dies I "currently" have. There are soooo many wonderful dies and,of course, I want them alll. (sniff, snifff - no money).
Can't wait to get some "alone" time to play!! My plan is to rent it out for all who have a "stash" (and what quilter doesn't?) so stay tuned for more details.

I Hate Hard Candy

OK, I'm sure this will not be a popular post, but I cannot keep quiet anymore. My family went out to eat tonight and on the way out the door my grandson had to have a piece of gum from the bubblegum machine. NOT a little chicklet, NOT a little piece of dentyne, but a giant, hard, round ball that would choke an elephant. I'm sorry, but I just do not get it! Why does our country go to such effort to make sure a small tire will not come off a toy tractor because it might choke a child but it is perfectly acceptable to entice them with candy that will do the trick?? Have you been to a parade lately?? Heck, Santa even promotes it. "Here kids, take this candy. Even though it is bigger than the little tire on your little tractor that your very common-sensed family has taught you NOT to put in your mouth, you CAN put this in your mouth and suck on it (down your windpipe)." Don't believe that the lollypops on a stick are any safer either. My 2 year-old grandson was sucking on one and "chewed" the stick off about 1/2" from the candy. I went balistic. I knew he had the candy and all I could see was a little piece of the stick between his lips. He just about bit my finger off while I tried prying it out of his mouth.
My fear for all this stems from personal experiece. I choked on a piece of peppermint like the ones pictured above. I was in my early twenties when it happened. Old enough (as compared to young children) to know how to handle it in my mouth, but down my windpipe it went. Luckily I was with my mother who was in the process of rushing me to the emergency room when it finally came out. The pain and fear was horrible. I will NEVER forget it and I cannot handle the thought of it ever happening to my grandchildren so call me old fuddie-duddie,over-protective grandma all you like. THAT, I can handle.

My husband gave me an electric frying pan for our first Christmas together. (I have always hated anything to do with cooking.) Thirty-five years of marriage has not taught him anything about my likes and dislikes but it has taught me to pick out my own gifts.

"Stuff My Stocking" is a fun event where you you pick out the gifts you want and then send "Santa" to pick them up for you. Here is how it works: A different item will be offered at a discount each day for 12 days You can purchase only one item or all twelve items offered, but you only have until midnight of the date posted in the title to tell us to stuff that item in your stocking.

You do not have to come into the shop, just send an email to nanashouse1@windstream.net with your name and phone number and the message "Stuff My Stocking" At the end of the event you (or your Santa) may come by and purchase your goodies. If you are out of town, we will call you to make arrangements for payment and ship them to you if you prefer.

Finally in my new shop on the square. I am now open but still have so much work to do. Joni Tygart has her "Creations and Inspirations" in the shop also so come by and checkout what she has to offer. There is more fabric, patterns and notions and much more to come. My plan is to be more active with my blog than facebook (if I can learn it). Please be patient with me, it seems that in order to run a business you are required to spend ALL your time with social media than actually running your shop. I have not learned how to juggle the two together yet.

I have moved my quilt shop on the square in Nashville, GA. I wish I had taken pictures of the process but too late for that now. I do not yet have a sign on the building but it is the building beside Dessa's dress shop. I will be posting more pictures of classes, projects and the shop soon

Very easy and gratifying for beginners because you will learn piecing, quilting, and binding technniques in one class AND walk away with a finished project. Just three straight seams make the components for this block. This placemat can also double as a "hot-plate" holder because we will use insulbrite as the batting. New Eyeglasses

No more of the cutesy, trendy glasses for me.! I am past the age of trying to impress anyone. I still want to look nice but I am sick and tired of the top rim of my eyeglasses being in my view so I got me some big grandma glasses. Imagine you are locked in a room with no windows and only two "peep holes", one is 1x5 and the other is 2x5. Aren't you going to choose the larger one to look out? OK, so they are not the "popular" choice in this day and age. But I would be willing to bet if some of the hottest, sexiest film stars of today started wearing them then suddenly they would be flying off the shelf. My daughter-in-law walked in the eye doctors office as I was mulling over which new glasses to choose (small town!), and she said "NO, not those, they make you look like a grandma." Well, duh! You made me that twice now. Time to look the part.

Missed Halloween

Well I missed halloween. and I love halloween. At least I got Gourdelia dressed for the part. My family and I had some very ugly virus that put me in bed for two days and two nights. Thank God my grandsons did not get it. I even had to close the shop.

My first posting

My first post and I do not have a clue what I am doing. I do pray for a patient following. My life is so chaotic that I am sure those who know me are wondering why I am starting a blog. I can already hear them saying, "When will she have time to do it?" But, I want to share and discuss the "Threads of My Life". This will include trials and triumphs of running a shop while keeping two grandsons, caring for an elderly mother, and trying to be a good wife, mother and mother-in-law. I will annouce new fabric arrivals and ongoing projects. Hopefully some fun will be had along the way.
